Who is Dav Pilkey?

Dav Pilkey is an American cartoonist, author, and illustrator of children’s literature from Cleveland, Ohio.

He started creating characters like “Captain Underpants” in elementary school. He grew up, but the characters stayed with him, but his first book, World War Won, was an allegorical fable inspired by the nuclear arms race. Captain Underpants is a superhero from a boy’s homemade comic book who accidentally becomes real (there’s a movie now).

After that, he illustrated books from other authors as well as his own and quickly launched the Dragon Series, then the Dumb Bunnies. He started the Captain Underpants series in 1997. The first book series became a hit with children across America.

Later, Pilkey created more series like The Dog Man Series about Officer Knight and his police dog Greg.

Who is Jane Green?

Jane Green (also known as Jane Green Warburg) is a best-selling English-born American author who’s writing commercial women’s fiction.

Green started as a publicist in her early 20s before working as a journalist for a few years–writing for The Daily Express, The Daily Mail, and Cosmopolitan magazine. She started working on her first novel, Straight Talking, in 1996, when she was 28 years old. It became a bestseller.

Labeled “the queen of chick-lit,” Jane Green found a lot of success, published more than 20 novels, a cookbook (she’s a graduate of the French Culinary Institute), and wrote a weekly column for The Lady magazine.

Who is Rachel Hore?

Rachel Hore is a British fiction writer who used to work at HarperCollins before moving to Norfolk with her husband–author D. J. Taylor–and children in 2001. That’s when she started her writing career.

First, she worked on a short story that keep on growing until it became her first novel, The Dream House, published in 2006. Since then, she wrote close to a dozen books.

For a long time too, until recently, Rachel Hore taught Publishing and Creative Writing at the University of East Anglia.

Who is John Gwynne?

John Gwynne is an award-winning British (but born in Singapore) author of fantasy series, but also a Viking re-enactor! He studied and lectured at Brighton University, he’s been in a rock ‘n’ roll band, playing the double bass, traveled the USA, and lived in Canada for a time.

He is married with children (and multiple dogs) and lives in Eastbourne, East Sussex, running a small family business rejuvenating vintage furniture.

Gwynne is mostly known for his “The Faithful and the Fallen” series, and the “Of Blood and Bone” series. His last series is The Bloodsworn Saga.

Who was Gene Wolfe?

Gene Rodman Wolfe (1931-2019) was a prolific American science fiction and fantasy writer, a member of the Science Fiction Hall of Fame (like Frank Herbert or Octavia Butler) known for his short stories and his award-winning novels

In fact, Wolfe is best known for his Book of the New Sun series which formed the first part of his “Solar Cycle”–like The Book of the Long Sun and The Book of the Short Sun. He also wrote The Soldier of the Mist series, The Wizard Knight series.

Reading Gene Wolfe is an experience as Neil Gaiman’s described it, he even gave some recommendations for a better reading experience.

Who is David Lagercrantz?

David Lagercrantz is a Swedish journalist and internationally known author. He began his career as a crime reporter, covering major cromes stories during the 1990s.

In 1997, he published his first book, Göran Kropp 8000+, a biography of the Swedish adventurer and mountaineer Göran Kropp. After that, he wrote more biographies, including Fall of Man in Wilmslow about the British mathematician Alan Turing, and the best-selling sports biography I Am Zlatan Ibrahimović.

Lagercrantz turned to fiction in 2001 with the thriller Stjärnfall (Starfall). In 2013, it was announced that he had been contracted to write a new book for the popular series Millennium by Stieg Larsson.

Who is Charles Willeford?

Charles Willeford (1919–1988) was an American author of fiction, poetry, autobiography, and literary criticism who is best known for his series of novels featuring hardboiled detective Hoke Moseley.

War vet Willeford’s first novel, High Priest of California, was published in 1953 before he re-enlisted in the Air Force (he left active duty in 1956). After that, he worked as a professional boxer, actor, horse trainer, and radio announcer, studied painting in France, and returned to the United States to study English literature at the University of Miami. Then he began a long tenure as a book reviewer for the Miami Herald.

That’s when he stopped writing novels for almost a decade. He came back in 1971 with The Burnt Orange Heresy and The Hombre from Sonora. He also wrote the screenplay for the 1974 film adaptation of Cockfighter starring Warren Oates.

In 1981, he published Miami Blues, the first of the Hoke Moseley novels. Charles Willeford died of a heart attack at 69 years, in Miami, Florida, on March 27, 1988.

As crime novelist Lawrence Block said it: “Willeford wrote quirky books about quirky characters, and seems to have done so with a magnificent disregard for what anyone else thought.”

Who is Karin Fossum?

Karin Fossum is an award-winning Norwegian author who began her literary career as a poet but became famous for her work in the crime genre.

She’s the writer of Inspector Sejer which was launched in 1995 with the book “Evas øye” aka In the Darkness in English. It’s a dark procedural series about the investigations led by the enigmatic Konrad Sejer and his partner Jacob Skarre.

The Inspector Sejer series was adapted as a TV show in the 2000s starring Bjørn Sundquist as Sejer and Christian Skolmen as Skarre.
