The Shadowhunter Chronicles Books in Order: How to read Cassandra Clare’s Series?

There was a movie, then a Shadowhunter TV show. But it all began as a book series.

What are The Shadowhunter Chronicles about?

It’s big. Yes, big. Possibly, when you were looking somewhere else, Cassandra Clare built a media franchise. There’s more than books (like the TV Show) but we’re going to stick with those.

The Shadowhunter Chronicles encompasses three novel series, two short-story collections and four graphic novels. Those stories are set in a universe where fairy tales and mythologies are true. Living alongside the mundane (or normal humans), a race of humans who possess angel blood, the Nephilim or Shadowhunters, is organized to patrol the Shadow World and prevent demons as well as Downworlders, including warlocks, faeries, werewolves, and vampires from attacking the mundanes.

The Wheel of Time Books in order: How to read Robert Jordan’s Series?

I’m kind of afraid that G.R.R. Martin will die before finishing The Song of Ice and Fire Series. I’m pretty sure that, unlike what Robert Jordan did with the wheel of Time, Martin will not let behind him enough notes to help another author to finish his work. With Luck, we will never know, one day Martin will surprise us by publishing one more book. For now, let’s talk about Jordan’s series.

What the Wheel of Time Series is about?

Series of high fantasy novels written by Robert Jordan (his real name was James Oliver Rigney, Jr.), The Wheel of Time was published from 1990 to 2013. Like I said, Jordan died before he could finish writing it. Brandon Sanderson was brought in to complete the series.

The Wheel of Time is a complex and pretty massive story that takes place in a fantasy world where the Dark One is breaking free from his prison. Rand al’Thor, a simple farmer’s son, leads a happy life until a pair of mysterious travelers arrive in his small village. Soon, He discovers that he can wield the power of the Aes Sedai, throwing his life and the lives of his friends into chaos.

Incarnations of Immortality Books in Order: How to read Piers Anthony’s series?

  • Fabien

Did you know that the Showtime series Dead Like Me by Bryan Fuller was inspired by the book On a Pale Horse by Piers Anthony? Me neither and I loved that show. It’s a good trivia to know, I guess. By the way, this book is the first of the Incarnations of Immortality series. It’s not a long series, but why not do a reading guide anyway?

What are the Incarnations of Immortality series about?

It’s an eight-book fantasy series by Piers Anthony. Mostly published between 1983 and 1990, the eighth book only came later (in 2007), the Incarnations of Immortality series transport uw in a fictional reality and history parallel to ours where magic and modern technology help advanced society at the same time.

The story is about supernatural ‘offices’ and, more precisely, it’s the adventures of the ‘Incarnations’, humans who hold these positions. Each Incarnation goes from a mortal life to the office and can use them as they see fit. Those offices are Death, Time, Fate, War, Nature, Evil, and Good.

How to read Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files?

Do you remember, a few years back, there was a TV show on the Sci-Fi Channel called The Dresden Files with Paul Blackthorne. I quite like it and I’d hoped to see more, but it was canceled after a short season. It was an adaptation and the book series is much bigger than the TV show, so here we go…

What are the Dresden Files?

Urban fantasy series written by Jim Butcher, The Dresden Files follows the investigations of Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden, Chicago’s first (and only) Wizard P.I. The books take pace in a universe where magic is obviously real, also are vampires, demons, spirits, faeries, werewolves and other kinds of monsters.

Harry Dresden is walking the line between humans and supernatural beings by taking jobs from both sides, including the Chicago PD’s Special Investigation unit. He works to protect the general public as he faces against a large variety of creatures.

The Sword of Truth Books in Order: How to read Terry Goodkind series?

Once upon a time, I weirdly thought that fantasy series were always trilogies. Well, I was wrong. The Sword of Truth won’t prove the contrary with its 17 novels. Terry Goodkind sure has ideas, even if some weren’t the most original at the beginning. But, let’s start with…

What is the Sword of Truth series about?

The series began in 1994, more than ten years before becoming a TV show know as Legend of the Seeker — it was pretty good, you should watch it. At the beginning, Richard becomes the Seeker of Truth and must therefore fight for justice in the Midlands.

During his quests, he travels with the Confessor Kahlan Amnell (his love interest) and his mentor and grandfather, the first wizard Zeddicus Zu’l “Zedd” Zorander. Together, they fight powerful evil forces who seek to control the world.

How to read the Chrestomanci series by Diana Wynne Jones?

Maybe you didn’t know that, but J.K. Rowling isn’t the only author to wrote children’s fantasy series. In fact, one of her inspirations is Diana Wynne Jones’s Chrestomanci series. You can also recognize her influence on The Magicians series by Lev Grossman and others… If you are curious, I compiled the multiple reading order options for this series, but first…

What is the Chrestomanci series about?

Published from 1977 to 2006, the Chrestomanci series takes us in an unspecified time, in a parallel world close to ours where magic is common. Chrestomanci is the name of a powerful enchanter and British government official whose duties include the supervision and enforcement of magical law. Only the most powerful enchanter can take over the office of Chrestomanci – Christopher Chant is Chrestomanci in five of the seven books.

Where to start with The Sandman’s Death of the Endless?

As promise, we continue into the world of Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman. This particular series has inspired numerous spin-offs. There are a few anthologies, numerous one shot, miniseries and other specials – few were written by Neil Gaiman.

The character of Death is not one of those who were lucky enough to get an ongoing series, unlike Lucifer and Dead Boy Detectives, even if she is extremely popular. That said, we still can find Death in a few publications outside the main Sandman story.

Who is Death of the Endless?

Let’s start with a presentation, for those who didn’t read The Sandman. In this Vertigo series, the Endless are the personification of concepts. They all play a specific part in the human world. Dream (or Morpheus) is the king of the Dreaming Wold, where you go when you sleep. His older sister is Death and she mostly meets with the recently deceased and guides them into their next existence.

Death is the second eldest of Endless and possibly the more powerful being in the Universe. In The Sandman, Death takes the appearance of a young goth woman. She is omnipotence and omnipresence, being with all those who die when they die.

Information This article will not be updated anymore. Since we have launched a blog dedicated to comic book reading orders, you can find an up-to-date version of this The Sandman’s Death Reading Order here.

The Chronicles of Narnia Books in Order

The Chronicles of Narnia Books in Order: How to read C.S. Lewis’ classic series?

Long before the Harry Potter series became the books children read, there were The Chronicles of Narnia. You know, the one with the magic world that inspired Fillory in Lev Grossman’s The Magicians (no reading order needed for this one!). Seriously, these stories are still really influential and there were not even published in a chronological order. If fact, finding an order that pleases everybody is near impossible. That said, let’s try at least two propositions:

What are the Chronicles of Narnia?

British classics of children’s literature, The Chronicles of Narnia is a series of seven high fantasy novels written by C.S. Lewis.

Set in the fictional realm of Narnia, the series narrates the adventures of various children who play central roles in the unfolding history of that world full of magic, mythical beasts, and talking animals.
