Who is Artemis Fowl?
Artemis Fowl is a twelve-year-old mischievous Irish mastermind, member of a dysfunctional family with a rich history of crime. He can easily hatch complicated and brilliant plan and it is exactly what he does to rebuild the Fawl Fortune after his father’s capture and his mother’s descent into madness.
Artemis Fowl is intelligent, cold and ruthless, but with an evolving moral compass as he grows up and goes on multiples dangerous adventures.
I started reading Captain America by Ed Brubaker thinking it was pretty straightforward, but it was not… because Marvel!
What Captain America by Ed Brubaker is about?
Everybody knows Captain America. But if you were in a coma during most of your life, he is a Marvel Superhero and the alter ego of Steve Rogers. As a young man, Steve wanted to fight for his country against the Nazis, but couldn’t … until he participated in an experiment that transformed him in a super-soldier. Near the end of the war, he and his sidekick Busty were left for dead. Trapped in ice and saved by the serum that changed him, he later came back to fight evil everywhere.
Ed Brubaker started to write the Captain America ongoing series with the fifth volume—publication began in January 2005. The Criminal author wrote 100 issues, bring back Bucky as the Winter Soldier, delt with Cap death and resurrection and more. It’s the most celebrated run on the Captain America modern series.
In every generation there is a chosen one. She alone will stand against the vampires, the demons and the forces of darkness. She is the slayer.
Who is Buffy Summers ?
She made a first appearance in the 1992 film Buffy the Vampire Slayer, before becoming the badass heroine of her own television show and comic books. Presented as a shallow high school cheerleader, Buffy is the Chosen One. She is gifted with the strength and skills to fight vampires, demons and other supernatural creatures.
As Buffy grows up, she must face the challenge of every teenager (and after, adult) life and also the darkness. She is surrounded by friends and family who help her in her mission.

Who is John Constantine?
Spinning out of the hit series Saga of Swamp Thing by Alan Moore, Steve Bissette and John Totleben in 1984, John Constantine became a popular character quite quickly and joined the new Vertigo line with his own title: Hellblazer.
John Constantine is a working class occult detective and con man from London who is known for his cynicism, his deadpan snarking, his ruthless cunning and his constant chain smoking. He wants to help save lives, but his technic can be deadly if it’s for the greater good. In fact, if you spend too much time next to him, you probably won’t live long enough to talk about it.
When I started this blog, this reading order was one of the first on my to-do list. I pushed it away, but I finally came back to it when I read that there’ll be a new reprint next year.
What about Green Lantern by Geoff Johns?
I didn’t really know a lot about Green Lantern, but when I started digging into what is considered must read, the Geoff Johns run on the famous DC Comics series was often named.
It’s a great way to enter the Green Lantern world. Johns created a new start and expanded it in a big way that still defined it to this day. It’s full of great characters, well-thought storylines and a lot of ambitions.
If you don’t know what the Green Lantern Corps is, it’s like the space cops of the universe. Hal Jordan became a Green Lantern when an alien crashed on Earth and gave him his ring of power (that is the simple way of telling the story).
Hal joined the corps, but things got complicated and he became the vehicle for the incarnation of Fear itself. When the story began, Hal is back and dark times lie ahead.
If you like urban fantasy stories with wizards solving crimes, like The Dresden Files, you should give a try to Rivers of London.
What is the Rivers of London series about?
Also known as The Peter Grant series, the Rivers of London series is written by English author Ben Aaronovitch. It’s composed of novels, short stories, audiobooks and graphic novels (written by Aaronovitch and Andrew Cartmel, illustrated by Lee Sullivan).
This urban fantasy story is about Probationary Constable Peter Grant who, in the aftermath of a puzzling murder, gains exclusive information from an eyewitness who happens to be a ghost. His supernatural ability brings him to the attention of Detective Chief Inspector Thomas Nightingale, who investigates crimes involving magic. Now, Peter investigates crimes who took him into a world where gods and other supernatural creatures mingle with mortals.
Soon, there will be a Watchmen TV show on HBO that will have some connexions with the original comics. It’s not new, DC writers don’t seem capable of stopping expending the world created by Alan Moore. Here is a guide.
What is Watchmen about?
Published by DC Comics in 1986 and 1987, Watchmen is a science fiction comic book limited series by the British writer Alan Moore, artist Dave Gibbons and colorist John Higgins.
The original Watchmen series is considered as one of the most important books ever published in the comic book world. It certainly is one of the best.
The story takes place in an alternate reality, in the 1980s. The primary difference is the presence of superheroes. The all-powerful Doctor Manhattan has given the U.S. a strategic advantage over the rest of the world. But, by 1977, superheroes became unpopular and they were outlawed by the passage of the Keene Act made.
In October 1985, costumed vigilante Rorschach discovered that Edward Blake, also known as The Comedian, a costumed hero employed by the U.S. government, has been murdered. Rorschach uncovered a plot to eliminate costumed heroes and warned some of his old friends. Something bigger is cooking, but the retired heroes have to first discovered what it is.
If you ask Eric Powell, he will probably recommend you to skip some of the early goon books, but I’m here to give you a reading order, so let’s start at the beginning.
What’s The Goon?
The Goon is not a what, he is a who. He is the enforcer for the gangster known as Labrazio. He runs his operation, collecting money and offing deadbeats, and basically being just violent with the help of his best friend, Franky.
In Lonely Street, The Goon and Franky must now deal with zombies raised from the dead by a Zombie Priest and more craziness.
