Arliss Cutter Books in Order by Marc Cameron
Marc Cameron is now a retired Chief Deputy US Marshal, but also the author of the Arliss Cutter series–and of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan novels. After working for nearly thirty years in law enforcement, Cameron now writes about it with Arliss Cutter, an Alaska’s Fugitive Task Force Deputy US Marshal who is still carrying his grandfather’s Colt Python revolver.
With deputy Lola Teariki, Cutter has to track killers, but also protect important people and lead fugitive operations. Sometimes, they have to do all that at the same time!
How to read the Arliss Cutter Series in Order?
Every entry in the Arliss Cutter book series works as a standalone story, but the lives of the different characters evolve from one novel to the other.
- Open Carry (2019) – U.S. Marshal Arliss Cutter is a born tracker. After enlisting in the military, fighting in the Middle East, and working three field positions for Marshal Services, Cutter is sent to the icy wastelands of southeast Alaska. Three people have disappeared on Prince of Wales Island. Two are crew members of the reality TV show, Alaska Adventure Jobs. The other is a Tlingit Indian girl who had the misfortune of witnessing their murders. Cutter’s job is to find the bodies, examine the crew’s footage for clues, and track down the men who killed them. Easier said than done. Especially when the whole town is hiding secrets, the trail leads to a dead end-and the hunter becomes the prey . . .
- Stone Cross (2020) – Deputy US Marshal Arliss Cutter and Deputy Lola Teariki are assigned to protect an uncooperative federal judge when he travels to Stone Cross, a remote and roadless Native village in western Alaska. The judge has received death threats but refuses protection. Cutter and Lola travel under the guise of working a fugitive case–though their real mission is to keep an eye on the judge. Winter comes early to this part of Alaska, and the rivers around Stone Cross are already beginning to slush, making travel by boat impossible. The night before Cutter and Lola fly in, a young couple who are caretakers at a remote fishing lodge eight miles upriver from the village, is abducted and the handyman is murdered. The body is discovered shortly after Cutter and Lola arrive in Stone Cross. Cutter and Lola must find out who is sending death threats to the judge, and save the missing couple from a man who has already demonstrated that he’s not afraid to kill.
- Bone Rattle (2021) – In Juneau, a young Native archeologist is sent to protect the ancient burial sites uncovered by an Alaskan gold mining company. He never returns. In Anchorage, a female torso-minus head, hands, and feet-is washed ashore near a jogging trail by the airport. It is not the first. Arliss Cutter and Lola Teariki are pulled from their duties and sent to a federal court in Juneau. Instead of tracking dangerous fugitives, they will be keeping track of sequestered jurors in a high-profile trial. The case involves a massive drug conspiracy with ties to a mining company, a lobbyist, and two state senators. When a prosecuting attorney is murdered–and a reporter viciously attacked-Cutter realizes they’re dealing with something much bigger, and darker, than a simple drug trial. The truth lies deep within the ancient sites and precious mines of this isolated land–and inside the cold hearts of those who would kill to hide its secrets…
- Cold Snap (2022) – In the remote northern town of Deadhorse, Alaska, Supervisory Deputy US Marshal Arliss Cutter escorts four very dangerous handcuffed prisoners onto a small bush plane en route to Fairbanks. Cutter’s expecting a routine mission and a nonstop flight–or so he thinks. When the plane goes down in the wilderness, all hell breaks loose. The prisoners murder the pilot and a guard and torch the plane. But their nightmare’s just beginning. Back in Anchorage, deputy Lola Teariki has traced the dismembered foot to a missing girl–and the serial psychopath who slaughtered her. It’s one of the prisoners on Cutter’s flight…
- Breakneck (2023) – Off the northeast coast of Russia, the captain and crew of a small crabbing vessel are brutally murdered by members of Bratva, the Russian mafia–their bodies stuffed into crab pots and thrown overboard. The killers scuttle the vessel off the coast of Alaska and slip ashore. In Washington, DC, Supreme Court Justice Charlotte Morehouse prepares for a trip to Alaska, unaware that a killer is waiting to take his revenge–by live-streaming her death to the world. In Anchorage, Alaska, Deputy US Marshals Arliss Cutter and Lola Teariki are assigned to a security detail at a judicial conference in Fairbanks. Lola is tasked with guarding Justice Townsend’s teenage daughter while Cutter provides counter-surveillance. It’s a simple, routine assignment–until the mother and daughter decide to explore the Alaskan wilderness on the famous Glacier Discovery train. Hiding onboard are the Chechen terrorists, who launch a surprise attack.
- Bad River (2024) – In the Inupiaq village of Wainwright on the Arctic Ocean, two teenagers discover a frozen body in the permafrost wall of their family’s cellar. They recognize the face through the ice. It is the face of a young woman who went missing—two years ago… In South Dakota, Arliss Cutter searches for answers surrounding his brother’s mysterious death. But his visit only raises more questions without any leads. Until he returns to Alaska—and learns that his brother had something in common with the frozen body in the ice cellar…
