Lorien Legacies Books in Order: How to read Pittacus Lore’s I Am Number Four Series?

Disclaimer: As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases. Thanks!

Written by James Frey and Jobie Hughes under the pen name Pittacus Lore, The Lorien Legacies (also known as the I Am Number Four Series) is a young adult/Sci-Fi book series. The story began with the introduction of John Smith. He seems like an ordinary teenager, living a normal life with his guardian Henri in Paradise, Ohio. But for John, keeping a low profile is essential, because he is not an ordinary teenager.

He’s an alien from the planet Lorien, and he’s on the run. A group of evil aliens from the planet Mogadore, who destroyed his world, is hunting for anyone who escaped. The Lorien Legacies was adapted as a movie in 2011 starring Alex Pettyfer as Daniel/John Smith/Number Four and Teresa Palmer as Number Six. In August 2022, a new adaptation, this time as a Netflix TV Show, was announced to be in development.

  1. I Am Number Four – Nine Loric children were sent to Earth to live in hiding until they grew up and developed their Legacies, powers that would help them fight back – and help them save us. Three of them are now dead. John is Number Four, and he knows he’s next….
  2. The Power Of Six – John has joined forces with Number Six, and they are on the run. But they are not alone. Already John and Six have inspired Marina, Number Seven, who has been hiding in Spain. 3. The Rise of Nine – John’s best friend, Sam Goode, was lost and taken captive by the enemy. In order to save him – and our world – John and Nine must join forces with Six and Seven who have been battling the Mogs in Spain, and who are now trying to locate Number Eight in India. The Garde must come together before it is too late. They are Lorien and Earth’s only hope.
  1. The Fall of Five – After facing off with the Mogadorian ruler and almost being killed, the Garde realize they are drastically unprepared. Now they’re hiding out in Nine’s Chicago penthouse, trying to figure out their next move. To defeat their enemy, the Garde must master their Legacies and learn to work together as a team. And when they receive a sign from Number Five they know they are close to all being together finally.
  2. The Revenge of Seven – In Chicago, John makes the unlikeliest of allies: a Mogadorian named Adam, who has switched sides. Adam knows the Mogs secrets, and he knows where to hit them: their command base near Washington, DC. But during the assault, John learns he and the Garde might be too late. The Mogadorians have commenced their ultimate invasion plans.
  3. The Fate of Ten – For years the Garde have fought the Mogadorians in secret, but now the invasion has begun. John is on the front lines in New York City. The odds are against him, but his best friend, Sam, has just inexplicably developed a Legacy – and he isn’t the only one. As the pair tracks down Five and Nine amidst the chaos, they meet another teen with powers. But is she a friend or foe?

  1. United As One – The Mogadorians have invaded Earth and the Garde are all that stand in the way, but they’ll need an army of their own to win this fight. They’ve teamed up with the US military, but it might not be enough. The Garde need reinforcements, and they’ve found them in the most unexpected place.

Lorien Legacies Reborn Series in Order

This is a new series in the same universe, but also a follow-up focusing on the human garde.

Now human teenagers have begun to develop incredible powers of their own, known as Legacies.
  2. Fugitive Six – The Human Garde Academy was created in the aftermath of an alien invasion of Earth. It was meant to provide a safe haven for teens across the globe who were suddenly developing incredible powers known as Legacies. Taylor Cook was one of the newest students and had no idea if she’d ever fit in. But when she was mysteriously abducted, her friends broke every rule in the book to save her.
  3. Return to Zero – After the battle in Switzerland, the Fugitive Six find their allegiances torn, dividing them into two factions. Taylor, Kopano, and Nigel return to the Academy with Nine, but nothing is the same. 1. I loved reading these books so much until they gave the humans legacies
I was so mad and sad and didn’t want to read on
But I did cause my love for the previous books were high
I would love the series more if humans didn’t have superpowers and it was only the loric
I literally cringed at the thought of Sam getting legacies and I really couldn’t continue reading.
The rise of nine is definitely the best in these series
Especially the end of the book

    1. but its fun watchig the new garde interact in a fun school enviroment. no one wants to read about the old boring garde as the main focus. if they dident give the humens legacies then they would have to continue as the original 10 as the main characters. BORING. lorien legacies reborn was thebest seiries from “pittacus”

  3. Yes, awesome, great series, but please include the Legacy Chronicles as well? An update it to the latest books.

  4. I finally made an update. Sorry it took so long. And thanks to all of you for your help, especially Rachael for your list.

  5. Just wanted to thank anyone who put this list together and updated it. I started reading Pittacus Lore’s books in elementary school and am now in college attempting to read everything. I just finished the first set of novels for the first time and am awestruck. I’m surprised that this series isn’t recognized for how amazing it is by more people.

  6. Where does “Eight’s Origin” (book 7.5 of Lorien Legacies: Lost Files) fit into the reading order? It is missing from this list.

    1. Hi Anita Nagel,
For what I found, Eight’s Origin has not been made an official E-book (I can totally make a mistake or maybe a new edition, I don’t know?)
Anyway, if you want, you can read it just after The Fallen Legacies and before The Rise of Nine.

  7. Reggie, I watched the video of “I Am Four” which helped when I read book, “The power of Six” because in my mind, I could actually visual the characters. I’ve also ordered the other books in the series. May 29, 2021

  8. It’s so disappointing that the movie didn’t have a sequel, but I super love the movie when it was released back then. That’s where I learned that it was from a book. As I am reading what happened why there was no sequel, apparently it didn’t have a great feedback review, I wonder what happened (anybody here knows what’s going on back then?) …
    The books are so great.
Maybe I will watch the movie again and see.
